POOR DRAINAGE SYSTEM A MAJOR HEALTH HAZARD

By: Kutlo Moilwa

Lives are at risk in Botswana particularly urban areas where there is high population, drains are left overflowing and water pipes are damaged and not attended to well in time. This is a major concern as the blame falls with the workmen who construct drainage systems and particularly the materials used.

When drains are overflowing they cause all types of population including air, water and land. Children are the main victims of water related diseases such as diarrhoea as they come in contact with these contaminated water. People also carry germs with their shoes all the way to their harm free houses thus spreading diseases. The breeding of cockroaches and malaria causing mosquitoes increases at a higher rate and spread diseases to people’s homes. These are just some of the few dangers that come with poor drainage systems.

It is always best to monitor the plumbing process of our homes and prevent the drainage problems before they occur.
